Each book of the Bible contains background information and maps to show where the action occurred. Over 400 devotions include real-life stories, reflection questions and application ideas. The Youth Bible Leaders Guide provides 80 ready-to-use, active Bible studies designed to use with The Youth Bible. Best for: Older elementary, junior high and senior high kids. Pros: This easy-to-understand book includes extra features that make the Bible come alive for teenagers. Interesting sidelights and devotions relate to topics such as friends, school and eternal life. The complete and easy-to-follow Leaders Guide will help inexperienced leaders lead interesting, fun Bible studies. Cons: The Youth Bible's cost is slightly higher than other Bibles with better quality covers. Some devotions may be a little over the heads of older elementary kids. Jim Seibert, reviewer SPECTRUM What it is: Spectrum is a set of 16 topical cassette tapes (two eight-tape sets) that cover topics from family to meeting Jesus. Each tape includes six songs by top Christian artists plus a 48-page leaders booklet. Each booklet contains song lyrics, discussion questions, 30 activities and Bible studies and meeting plan suggestions for each song. Best for: Youth workers and Sunday school teachers who want to present topics from discipleship to hot issues such as incest and divorce. Pros: This curriculum is a great tool to introduce teenagers to Christian music and artists. It's flexible enough to use on its own or with almost any strategy of youth ministry. Each video is accompanied by a four-page leaders guide that includes a 90-minute meeting outline, discussion questions, Bible verses that apply to the topic and a wrap-up. Best for: Youth leaders, parents and students to help focus on human sexuality from a Christian perspective. Pros: The video engages the viewer through vignettes and fast-paced, upbeat music rather than preachy monologues. Teenagers are encouraged to abstain from sexual involvement before marriage. The vignette of the Christian couple who waited to have sex before marriage is convincing. Cons: The video is fragmented. Student interviews often appear flippant and insincere. There are no in-depth discussions with kids struggling to make good sexual choices because of their faith. The challenge of sexual abstinence as a faithful commitment to God is tacked on as a mini-blip at the end of the tape.
